WELCOME to my website, a display of art and writings

My art is both representational and abstract as well as figurative and non-figurative.  The types of art I produce involve painting, sculpture, and drawing. Although I classify it primarily as a craft, I also include pottery, since it was my springboard into art. The media I use are acrylics for paintings, clay, steel, aluminum, and wood products for sculpture, and drawing pencils for sketches.  The methods I employ for shaping clay are wheel-throwing, extruding, and hand-building. In the case of metal sculpture, I have employed casting based on the lost-wax method and MIG welding. Please note: All works of art are NFS at this time. All works, artistic and written, are also subject to copyright protection.

My writings are of three types: essays on a range of topics, short stories, and humor based on the absurd and ironic.

The common thread that runs through the pages of this website is creativity; hence, the name of this website. What is creativity? There are many definitions but common to most is the imagination, invention, and production of the novel and original, offering some form of utility including aesthetic and intellectual enjoyment.  “You are what you eat.” is an apt truism but perhaps it is truer to say, “You are what you create.”  While consumption is important to health, and can additionally bring pleasure, creative production enables self-affirmation and self-realization, higher order manifestations of humanness.  Fortunately, we are all capable of creativity, although we might not choose to nurture and use it, because it was perhaps not encouraged in our developmental years. In this regard, I am most fortunate, having grown up in a house where art, music, and literature were highly valued by my father.

Website Dedication: I dedicate this webpage to my wife, Sabine, who has showed me much patience and encouragement, and my father, Ernest Girardot Kellett, the most intelligent and creative person I have ever met.
